I’m writing my first blog! So I’m going to write about my first love and I’m not sure what age I discovered that love. I did start very young though and it’s been with me ever since. That love is about food and cooking!
I remember begging my mom to teach me how to cook at the age of ten. She should have known about my love because I have a memory from the time of 4 or 5. I was sitting on the kitchen floor in front of all the cupboards and I had them all open. And all around me I had all the pots and pans that had been in the cupboards all around me. I was having so much fun. Then I discovered this bag of white stuff in the cupboard, too. Soon every pot and pan got some of that white stuff. Somehow I didn’t get into trouble over it all. Most likely because I didn’t have access to water! But I do have a small memory of being hauled up and away from my very artful arrangement. I’m just sure it was really artful, don’t you think?
Food is a big part of my life. And come to think of it, so are pots and pans! I have quite a collection including an array of copper pots, sauté pans and even a stockpot. My kitchen was fully stocked before I even got into a very serious relationship. I remember when I first started dating my husband, he couldn’t understand why a single woman would have a need for 12 quart stockpot! Well, I had several reasons and he now understands everyone of them. We now have 3 12 quart stock pots and we have been known to use them all at one time. I have a 12 qt stainless steel stock pot, a 12 qt copper stock pot and a Calphalon anodized 12 qt stock pot. Maybe I’m compensating for being taken away from my pots and pans now. So why 3 different types of stock pots? That would take another blog post, so we’ll save that for later. I also have a 6 qt, a 7 qt, an 8 qt stock pot and if you can believe this, a 24 qt stock pot. Yes, I’ve done some serious cooking over the years.
So what is your first memory of cooking equipment?
